Obituary of Charles Strack

Charlie died peacefully in the Clearbrook Memory Care facility in Phoenix, AZ surrounded by family on March 13, 2024 at the age of 91.

Charles was born October 7, 1932 to Carl and Cecelia (Schlanzer) Strack in Indianapolis, Indiana. He attended Sacred Heart grade school and went on to enter St. Joseph, a minor seminary. He became a Franciscan priest on June 24, 1960 and worked in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Illinois parishes focusing his time working with the poor and established the Franciscan Office of Justice and Peace in Chicago. During this time in Chicago he worked many weekends with Marriage Encounter and Beginning Experience groups. He left the Franciscan Order in 1980. He continued to work in the Catholic Church as a business manager for several parishes. His retirement joy was working and volunteering for Feed My Starving Children.

Charles is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Kathlyn, her children, Richard (Anne) Collett, Sharon (Mike) Collett Bearror and David (Suzanne) Collett. Grandchildren, Derrick (Cheryl) Heidinger, Michael (Abbi) Collett, Keith Collett, Bryan Robison, James Hrvoich, Daniel (Michelle) Hrvoich and Logan Collett. Great-granddaughters, Alexandra (Aiya) Simmons, Catherine (Moxie) Collett and Danielle (Pepper) Collett.

He leaves behind many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, sister, step-daughter, and great-grandson.

A Celebration of Life will be celebrated on April 4, 2024 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Phoenix.
