Kate Samalik

Obituary of Kate Samalik

Kate (Kathy, Kathleen) Samalik passed away on January 29, 2024.

She was born in September of 1942 in Chicago, Illinois to Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Crowe. In 1948 the Crowe family moved out to Southern Arizona, settling in Central Phoenix, where Kate attended St. Francis Xavier School through junior high. She then went on to Xavier College Preparatory and graduated high school with the class of 1960. She continued her educational pursuits by going to St. Joseph’s Hospital Nursing School and following that, by graduating with Bachelors in Nursing from ASU. She had a long and fulfilling career as a nurse in Cardiac Care, NICU, as a School Nurse and Hospice care nurse. Kate finished her career with 20 years as nurse case manager with Hospice of the Valley. While her career fulfilled her natural tendency for serving others, she also raised her son Joe and later became a grandmother to Tim.

Kate had friends from all of her avenues of life and was most fond of her life long friendships with her Xavier classmates, and her nursing colleagues. She sang in the choir at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church and was an active parishioner and gave back to her community. Many will remember her for her laugh, the stories she shared and care she provided. Her family thanks the nurses and Hospice of The Valley team who cared for her in her final days.

She will be missed by her friends and family dearly. Kate is survived by her son Joe Samalik; grandson Brandon Timothy Samalik; her sisters Sheila Stoeller, Mary (Michael) Phipps; nieces Shauna (Alan) Farmer, Megan (Aaron) Martens, Katie Stoeller; nephews Zach (Katie) Duran, Danny (Lorizelda) Stoeller, Colin (Jessica) Phipps, Chris Phipps, Andy Phipps; plus her nine grand nieces and nephews.
